About the Role
We are seeking a visionary and execution-focused Director of Product - Recommendations to lead discovery, ranking, and recommendation experiences across our audio platform.
In a world where listeners have millions of tracks, podcasts, and creators at their fingertips, discovery is everything. You will define and scale our personalisation strategy to ensure every user finds the right content at the right moment — driving engagement, retention, subscription growth, and long-term listener loyalty.
You will collaborate closely with Engineering, Data Science, Gen AI, Content, and Growth teams to build intelligent recommendation systems.
What You’ll Own
Personalisation Strategy
- Define and lead the long-term vision for personalised audio discovery across Home, Search, Browse, Playlists, Radio, and Notifications.
- Develop differentiated recommendation experiences across music, podcasts, audiobooks, and emerging audio formats.
- Balance algorithmic discovery with editorial curation to deliver culturally relevant and context-aware experiences.
Machine Learning & Ranking Systems
- Partner with Data Science to build scalable ranking and recommendation systems (collaborative filtering, embeddings, contextual bandits, deep learning).
- Drive innovation in, real-time recommendations, creator discovery, long-tail content surfacing, contextual and mood-based personalization
- Establish experimentation frameworks and continuous model evaluation.
Content & Creator Ecosystem
- Work closely with content & growth teams to, amplify emerging writers
- Balance popularity vs. diversity
- Ensure fair and responsible discovery
- Develop recommendation systems that support both listener satisfaction and creator growth.
Data, Experimentation & Impact
- Build a culture of rapid experimentation (A/B testing at scale).
- Define north-star and input metrics tied to engagement, retention, and LTV.
- Quantify incremental impact of recommendations on subscription and ad revenue.
Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor a team of Product Managers focused on ranking, search, personalization, and discovery.
- Foster strong collaboration across Engineering, Data Science, Design, Growth, and Content teams.
- Represent personalisation strategy at executive and board levels.
What we’re Looking For
Required Experience
- 10+ years of product management experience in B2C consumer technology.
- 3–5+ years leading high-performing product teams.
- Direct experience building personalisation, recommendation, or search systems at scale.
- Deep understanding of experimentation, data science collaboration, and ML-driven products.
- Strong consumer intuition and passion for entertainment, media, or creator platforms.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in music, podcasting, streaming media, or digital content platforms.
- Familiarity with freemium and/or ad-supported business models.
- Experience optimising both user engagement and creator marketplace dynamics.
- Knowledge of content metadata systems and rights constraints in audio platforms.
